it's about a week or so into 2010. i hope you guys are doing well with a good start to this new year.

i think i'll resolve to be kinder this year. i feel somewhat jaded from my experiences with this site for the past few years, and by sitting on this account in recent years, i only ended up neglecting the people i know here and alienating others for no reason.

a sheltered kid like me doesn't know what he's doing until it's too late. i wish i had learned to think more objectively back when i hung out at ackanime almost every day, or sent stupid devwatch comments.

but let's think forward. i've lost touch with drawing over the past several months, and thinking about it now makes me want to practice again. i have to get the juices flowing again. i think i owe that to myself if i want to get anything done for my section on geeksanddorks.com.

i hope this year is productive for you too.

LOL-LERSKATES.

Houston got totally swamped last week thanks to Hurricane Ike (OMG NO MORE SMASH BROS. BRAWL JOKES, PLEASE), and about 95% of the city lost power. I got power back last Monday but there are still hundreds of thousands who are not as lucky.

While this is going on, radio people argue how we could've been better prepared for the storm and who's to blame for the lack of immediate aid, and middle-aged women are trying their hardest to act like amateur reporters, shoving their phones and microphones into the mayor's face and overdramatizing their situation to coddle sympathy from the stations and some listeners. I don't know how things are in Dallas, but it sure as hell can't be as bad as it is on the coast. That area was practically flattened, and those people will have to rebuild or leave altogether.

I think we've panicked at the wrong time. This is getting ridiculous.

And now school is back to normal after a week off, and there's plenty of work to be done.

In the meantime, I started up another idea based off of Kamen Rider. Personally, if you don't know about Kamen Rider, please check it out if you're into live-action Power Rangers-ish shows. I know that some people think Power Rangers is lame (and it is, because it's simply very childish at times) but Kamen Rider usually contains more drama and can get rather dark sometimes.

Kamen Rider Faiz, for example, takes the common "generic villain punching bags" and turns them into people who are drunk with power or are misguided and manipulated by people's inability to understand anything other than human. Kamen Rider Den-Oh explores time-traveling to turn back time on a person's biggest regret in hopes of correcting a mistake. And because death is apparently an inappropriate matter to discuss on children's television, it makes Kamen Rider all the much more intriguing.

The story I'm working on, hopefully, covers how much damage can be done when a personal strife ends up expanding and getting people caught up in matters that shouldn't concern them.

Their debut event earlier this year in April kinda bombed, but here's hoping for next year.

I'm planning to get an art table with and and HAUL ASS AND WRECK SHOP WITH OUR COMBINED POWERS, or something like that. If you're in the area, hopefully I'll see you there. I have yet to register but I am seriously going over my plans for the event.

Bespa Kumamero (wouldn't it make more sense if it was romanized as "Vespa"?) is a trance/techno duo from Japan. I haven't gotten around to actually listening to any of their stuff but at least they LOOK badass.

I wouldn't mind jumpin into the karaoke contest but I think I can only karaoke alice nine., a little bit of abingdon boys school, and some of L'arc~en~Ciel. Though I think it would be awesome if I could karaoke some HALCALI or RIP SLYME.

Anyways...

I'm about a month or two into my sophomore year of college. With four classes on block schedule, it's kinda easy-going. As for arts, I've been scribbling around, but nothing particularly special. Not til I see some progression, at least.

School Rumble's official website is advertising a Draw Your Own Manga contest, and my friend Elizabeth is really pushing me to enter. As of this entry, the contest closes in four days, and I haven't started anything.

Should I enter? I don't feel like it.
Would it be a good way to get my name and work out there? Maybe.
Does it bother me that this is advertised on a website for a random comedy anime? Yup.

Maybe BERZERK's Song has a chance.
